Introduction: Adherent-invasive Escherichia coli (AIEC) is strongly associated with the pathogenesis of Crohn's disease (CD). However, no molecular markers currently exist for AIEC identification. This study aimed to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between AIEC and non-AIEC strains that may contribute to AIEC pathogenicity and to evaluate their utility as molecular markers. Methods: Comparative transcriptomics was performed on two closely related AIEC/non-AIEC strain pairs during Intestine-407 cell infection. DEGs were quantified by RT-qPCR in the same RNA extracts, as well as in 14 AIEC and 23 non-AIEC strains to validate the results across a diverse strain collection. Binary logistical regression was performed to identify DEGs whose quantification could be used as AIEC biomarkers. Results: Comparative transcriptomics revealed 67 differences in expression between the two phenotypes in the strain pairs, 50 of which (81.97%) were corroborated by RT-qPCR. When explored in the whole strain collection, 29 DEGs were differentially expressed between AIEC and non-AIEC phenotypes (p-value < 0.042), and 42 genes between the supernatant fraction of infected cell cultures and the cellular fraction containing adhered and intracellular bacteria (p-value < 0.049). Notably, six DEGs detected in the strain collection were implicated in arginine biosynthesis and five in colanic acid synthesis. Furthermore, two biomarkers based on wzb and cueR gene expression were proposed with an accuracy of ≥ 85% in our strain collection. Discussion: This is the first transcriptomic study conducted using AIEC-infected cell cultures. We have identified several genes that may be involved in AIEC pathogenicity, two of which are putative biomarkers for identification.

The presence of Staphylococcus aureus in six dry-cured meat-processing facilities was investigated. S. aureus was detected in 3.8% of surfaces from five facilities. The occurrence was clearly higher during processing (4.8%) than after cleaning and disinfection (1.4%). Thirty-eight isolates were typified by PFGE and MLST. Eleven sequence types (STs) were defined by MLST. ST30 (32%) and ST12 (24%) were the most abundant. Enterotoxin genes were detected in 53% of isolates. The enterotoxin A gene (sea) was present in all ST30 isolates, seb in one ST1 isolate, and sec in two ST45 isolates. Sixteen isolates harbored the enterotoxin gene cluster (egc) with four variations in the sequence. The toxic shock syndrome toxin gene (tst) was detected in 82% of isolates. Regarding antimicrobial resistance, twelve strains were susceptible to all the antibiotics tested (31.6%). However, 15.8% were resistant to three or more antimicrobials and, therefore, multidrug-resistant. Our results showed that in general, efficient cleaning and disinfection procedures were applied. Nonetheless, the presence of S. aureus with virulence determinants and resistance to antimicrobials, particularly multidrug-resistant MRSA ST398 strains, might represent a potential health hazard for consumers.

BACKGROUND: Tubal patency testing constitutes an essential part of infertility work-up. Hysterosalpingo-foam-sonography (HyFoSy) is currently one of the best tests for assessing tubal patency. The objective of our study was to evaluate the post-procedure rate of spontaneous pregnancy among infertile women submitted for an HyFoSy exam with ExEm® foam and the factors associated with this. METHODS: Multicenter, prospective, observational study performed at six Spanish centers for gynecologic sonography and human reproduction. From December 2015 to June 2021, 799 infertile women underwent HyFoSy registration consecutively. The patients' information was collected from their medical records. Multivariable regression analyses were performed, controlling for age, etiology, and time of sterility. The main outcome was to measure post-procedure spontaneous pregnancy rates and the factors associated with the achievement of pregnancy. RESULTS: 201 (26.5%) women got spontaneous conception (SC group), whereas 557 (73.5%) women did not get pregnant (non-spontaneous conception group, NSC). The median time for reaching SC after HyFoSy was 4 months (CI 95% 3.1-4.9), 18.9% of them occurring the same month of the procedure. Couples with less than 18 months of infertility were 93% more likely to get pregnant after HyFoSy (OR 1.93, 95% CI 1.34-2.81; p < 0.001); SC were two times more frequent in women under 35 years with unexplained infertility (OR 2.22, 95% CI 1.07-4.65; P0.033). CONCLUSION: After HyFoSy, one in four patients got pregnant within the next twelve months. Couples with shorter infertility time, unexplained infertility, and women under 35 years are more likely to achieve SC after HyFoSy.

This study reports nickel removing by electrocoagulation of Ni(II)-NH3-CO2-SO2-H2O system at laboratory scale. Experiments were done using Al/Al pair electrodes at initial nickel concentration between 293 and 1356 mg·L-1 and under operation parameters of pH 8.6, current density 9.8 mA·cm-2, electrolysis time 30 min, and temperature 60 ºC. The obtained results show removal efficiencies between 97.7 and 99.7 %. Kinetics modeling suggested combined effects of external diffusion and nucleation, and as controlling step the chemical reaction and a possible autocatalytic contribution. The process followed the Langmuir´s isotherm with a maximum adsorption capacity of 7519 mg·g-1. ICP-OES, XRD and FTIR characterization of the precipitates indicated a typical Ni-Al layered double hydroxide structures with 33.4-40.7 % nickel and 6.3-7.0 % aluminum depending on initial nickel concentration. The operation costs of energy and electrode consumption were 320 - 537 $·t-1 of removed nickel.

Protein-energy wasting (PEW) and poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are independently associated with morbi-mortality in continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). PEW may reduce HRQoL; however, we hypothesized HRQoL is affected differentially by PEW degrees or by individual criteria of nutritional status. AIM: To evaluate HRQoL according to PEW severity and nutritional status indicators in CAPD. This is a cross-sectional study in 151 patients. Subjective global assessment (SGA) was employed, and nutritional status classified as normal, mild-moderate PEW, and severe PEW. HRQoL was evaluated using Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form™, including physical (PCS), mental (MCS) and kidney disease (KDCS) components, and their subscales. Dietary intake, anthropometric and biochemical variables were measured. Forty-six percent of patients were well-nourished, 44% had mild-moderate PEW, and 10% severe PEW. Compared with well-nourished patients, those with mild-moderate (p=0.06) and severe (p=0.005) PEW had lower HRQoL score [68 (52-75), 55 (45-72), 46 (43-58), respectively]. PCS, MCS, and KDCS and their subscales had lower values as PEW was more severe. Patients with obesity and hypoalbuminemia had significantly lower HRQoL overall and component scores than their counterparts. Dietary intake was not associated with quality of life. In multivariate analysis obesity, PEW (by SGA), hypoalbuminemia, and low educational level predicted poor HRQoL (χ2 58.2, p<0.0001). As conclusion, PEW severity was related with worse HRQoL, either as overall score or in every component or subscale in CAPD patients. Poor HRQoL was predicted independently by PEW severity and obesity; additional predictors were hypoalbuminemia and low education.

Lacticaseibacillus paracasei INIA P272 and Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus INIA P344, isolated from breast-fed infants, are two promising bacterial strains for their use in functional foods according to their demonstrated probiotic and technological characteristics. To better understand their probiotic characteristics and evaluate their safety, here we report the draft genome sequences of both strains as well as the analysis of their genetical content. The draft genomes of L. paracasei INIA P272 and L. rhamnosus INIA P344 comprise 3.01 and 3.26 Mb, a total of 2994 and 3166 genes and a GC content of 46.27 % and 46.56 %, respectively. Genomic safety was assessed following the EFSA guidelines: the identification of both strains was confirmed through Average Nucleotide Identity, and the absence of virulence, pathogenic and antibiotic resistance genes was demonstrated. The genome stability analysis revealed the presence of plasmids and phage regions in both genomes, however, CRISPR sequences and other mechanisms to fight against phage infections were encoded. The probiotic abilities of both strains were supported by the presence of genes for the synthesis of SCFA, genes involved in resistance to acid and bile salts or a thiamine production cluster. Moreover, the encoded exopolysaccharide biosynthesis genes could provide additional protection against the deleterious gastrointestinal conditions, besides which, playing a key role in adherence and coaggregation of pathogenic bacteria together with the high number of adhesion proteins and domains encoded by both genomes. Additionally, the bacteriocin cluster genes found in both strains, could provide an advantageous ability to compete against pathogenic bacteria. This genomic study supports the probiotic characteristics described previously for these two strains and satisfies the safety requirements to be used in food products.

The Na[3,3'-Fe(8-I-1,2-C2B9H10)2] and Na[2,2'-M(1,7-C2B9H11)] (M = Co3+, Fe3+) small molecules are synthesized and the X-ray structures of [(H3O)(H2O)5][2,2'-Co(1,7-C2B9H11)2] and [Cs(MeCN)][8,8'-I2-Fe(1,2 C2B9H10)2], both displaying a transoid conformation of the [M(C2B9)2]- framework, are reported. Importantly, the supramolecular structure of [(H3O)(H2O)5][2,2'-Co(1,7-C2B9H11)2] presents 2D layers leading to a lamellar arrangement of the anions while the cation layers form polymeric water rings made of six- and four-membered rings of water molecules connected via OH⋯H hydrogen bonds; B-H⋯O contacts connect the cationic and anionic layers. Herein, we highlight the influence of the ligand isomers (ortho-/meta-), the metal effect (Co3+/Fe3+) on the same isomer, as well as the influence of the presence of the iodine atoms on the physical-chemical and biological properties of these molecules as antimicrobial agents to tackle antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which were tested with four Gram-positive bacteria, five Gram-negative bacteria, and three Candida albicans strains that have been responsible for human infections. We have demonstrated an antimicrobial effect against Candida species (MIC of 2 and 3 nM for Na[3,3'-Co(8-I-1,2-C2B9H10)2] and Na[2,2'-Co(1,7-C2B9H11)2], respectively), and against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including multiresistant MRSA strains (MIC of 6 nM for Na[3,3'-Co(8-I-1,2-C2B9H10)2]). The selectivity index for antimicrobial activity of Na[3,3'-Co(1,2-C2B9H11)2] and Na[3,3'-Co(8-I-1,2-C2B9H10)2] compounds is very high (165 and 1180, respectively), which reveals that these small anionic metallacarborane molecules may be useful to tackle antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Moreover, we have demonstrated that the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria constitutes an impermeable barrier for the majority of these compounds. Nonetheless, the addition of two iodine groups in the structure of the parent Na[3,3'-Co(1,2-C2B9H11)2] had an improved effect (3-7 times) against Gram-negative bacteria. Possibly the changes in their physical-chemical properties make the meta-isomers and the ortho-di-iodinated small molecules more permeable for crossing this barrier. It should be emphasized that the most active metallabis(dicarbollide) small molecules are both transoid conformers in contrast to the ortho- [3,3'-Co(1,2-C2B9H11)2]- that is cisoid. The fact that these small molecules cross the mammalian membrane and have antimicrobial properties but low toxicity for mammalian cells (high selectivity index, SI) represents a promising tool to treat infectious intracellular bacteria. Since there is an urgent need for antibiotic discovery and development, this study represents a relevant advance in the field.

Background & Aims: Adherent-invasive E. coli (AIEC) has largely been implicated in the pathogenesis of Crohn's disease (CD). E. coli strains with similar genetic backgrounds and virulence genes profiles have been associated with other intestinal disorders, such as ulcerative colitis (UC), colorectal cancer (CRC), and coeliac disease (CeD), but the role of AIEC in these diseases remains unexplored. We aimed to assess the distribution, abundance, and pathogenic features of AIEC in UC, CRC, and CeD. Methods: The AIEC phenotype was investigated in 4,233 E. coli isolated from the ileum and colon of 14 UC and 15 CRC patients and in 38 fecal E. coli strains obtained from 17 CeD and 10 healthy (H) children. AIEC prevalence and abundance were compared with previous data from CD patients and H controls. Clonality, virulence gene carriage, and phylogenetic origin were determined for the AIEC identified. Results: In UC, AIEC prevalence was intermediate between CD and H subjects (UC: 35.7%, CD: 55.0%, H: 21.4%), and similar to CD patients with colonic disease (C-CD: 40.0%). In CRC, the prevalence was lower (6.7%) than these groups. In patients with AIEC, the estimated abundance was similar across all intestinal conditions. All AIEC strains isolated from UC and CRC belonged to the B1 phylogroup, except for a strain of the A phylogroup, and the majority (75% of clonally distinct AIEC) harbored the Afa/Dr operon and the cdt gene. None of the E. coli isolated from the CeD cohort were AIEC. Nonetheless, E. coli strains isolated from active CeD patients showed higher invasion indices than those isolated from H and inactive CeD pediatric patients. Conclusion: We support the hypothesis that AIEC-like strains can be involved not only in CD but also in UC. Further works are needed to study the virulence particularities of these groups of strains and to determine if there is a causative link between AIEC and UC. In contrast, we rule out the possible association of AIEC with CRC. In addition, to further study the E. coli strains in CeD for their possible pathogenic role would be of interest.

El desgaste proteico-energético (DEP) y la mala calidad de vida relacionada con la salud (CVRS) se asocian de forma independiente con la morbimortalidad en diálisis peritoneal continua ambulatoria (DPCA). El DEP puede reducir la CVRS; sin embargo, planteamos la hipótesis de que la CVRS se ve afectada de forma independiente por los grados de DEP o por los criterios individuales del estado nutricional. Objetivo : Evaluar la CVRS de acuerdo a la gravedad de la DEP e indicadores del estado nutricional en DPCA.Este es un estudio transversal en 151 pacientes. Se empleó la evaluación global subjetiva (EGS) y el estado nutricional se clasificó como normal, DEP leve-moderada y DEP grave. La CVRS se evaluó mediante el uso del cuestionario Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form™, incluidos los componentes físicos (PCS), mentales (MCS) y de enfermedad renal (KDCS) y sus subescalas. Se midieron la ingesta dietética, las variables antropométricas y bioquímicas.El 46% de los pacientes tenía un estado nutricional normal, el 44% tenía DEP leve-moderada y el 10% DEP grave. En comparación con los pacientes bien nutridos, aquellos con DEP leve-moderada (p=0,06) y grave (p=0,005) tenían una puntuación de CVRS más baja (68 [52-75], 55 [45-72], 46 [43-58], respectivamente). Igualmente, la PCS, MCS y KDCS y sus subescalas tuvieron valores más bajos, conforme la DEP fue más severa. Los pacientes con obesidad e hipoalbuminemia tenían puntuaciones de CVRS general y de sus componentes significativamente más bajas que sus contrapartes. La ingesta dietética no se asoció con la calidad de vida. En el análisis multivariado la obesidad, el DEP (por EGS), la hipoalbuminemia y el bajo nivel educativo predijeron una mala CVRS (χ2 58,2; p<0,0001).En conclusión, la gravedad del DEP se relacionó con una peor CVRS, ya sea como puntuación global o en cada componente o subescala de los pacientes con DPCA. ... Limosilactobacillus reuteri is a beneficial bacterium that inhabits the gastrointestinal tract of different mammals. Diverse beneficial effects have been attributed to specific strains, in part mediated by the production of reuterin. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of L. reuteri INIA P572, a reuterin-producing strain isolated from pig feces.

BACKGROUND: An Escherichia coli (E. coli) pathotype with invasive properties, first reported by Darfeuille-Michaud and termed adherent-invasive E. coli (AIEC), was shown to be prevalent in up to half the individuals with Crohn's Disease (CD), suggesting that these bacteria could be involved in the pathophysiology of CD. Among the genes related to AIEC pathogenicity, fim has the potential to generate an inflammatory reaction from the intestinal epithelial cells and macrophages, as it interacts with TLR4, inducing the production of inflammatory cytokines independently of LPS. Therefore, targeting the bacterial adhesion of FimH-expressing bacteria seems a promising therapeutic approach, consisting of disarming bacteria without killing them, representing a selective strategy to suppress a potentially critical trigger of intestinal inflammation, without disturbing the intestinal microbiota. RESULTS: We analyzed the metagenomic composition of the gut microbiome of 358 patients with CD from two different cohorts and characterized the presence of FimH-expressing bacteria. To assess the pathogenic role of FimH, we used human intestinal explants and tested a specific FimH blocker to prevent bacterial adhesion and associated inflammation. We observed a significant and disease activity-dependent enrichment of Enterobacteriaceae in the gut microbiome of patients with CD. Bacterial FimH expression was functionally confirmed in ileal biopsies from 65% of the patients with CD. Using human intestinal explants, we further show that FimH is essential for adhesion and to trigger inflammation. Finally, a specific FimH-blocker, TAK-018, inhibits bacterial adhesion to the intestinal epithelium and prevents inflammation, thus preserving mucosal integrity. CONCLUSIONS: We propose that TAK-018, which is safe and well tolerated in humans, is a promising candidate for the treatment of CD and in particular in preventing its recurrence. Video abstract.

Limosilactobacillus reuteri INIA P572 is a strain able to produce the antimicrobial compound reuterin in dairy products, exhibiting a protective effect against some food-borne pathogens. In this study, we investigated some probiotic properties of this strain such as resistance to gastrointestinal passage or to colonic conditions, reuterin production in a colonic environment, and immunomodulatory activity, using different in vitro and in vivo models. The results showed a high resistance of this strain to gastrointestinal conditions, as well as capacity to grow and produce reuterin in a human colonic model. Although the in vitro assays using the RAW 264.7 macrophage cell line did not demonstrate direct immunomodulatory properties, the in vivo assays using a Dextran Sulphate Sodium (DSS)-induced colitic mice model showed clear immunomodulatory and protective effects of this strain.

Dietary intake, anthropometric and biochemical variables were measured. Forty-six percent of patients were well-nourished, 44% had mild-moderate PEW, and 10% severe PEW. Compared with well-nourished patients, those with mild-moderate (p=0.06) and severe (p=0.005) PEW had lower HRQoL score [68 (52-75), 55 (45-72), 46 (43-58), respectively]. PCS, MCS, and KDCS and their subscales had lower values as PEW was more severe. Patients with obesity and hypoalbuminemia had significantly lower HRQoL overall and component scores than their counterparts. Dietary intake was not associated with quality of life. In multivariate analysis obesity, PEW (by SGA), hypoalbuminemia, and low educational level predicted poor HRQoL (χ2 58.2, p<0.0001). As conclusion, PEW severity was related with worse HRQoL, either as overall score or in every component or subscale in CAPD patients. Poor HRQoL was predicted independently by PEW severity and obesity; additional predictors were hypoalbuminemia and low education.

Genomic diversity of Listeria monocytogenes isolates from the deboning and slicing areas of three dry-cured ham processing plants was analysed. L. monocytogenes was detected in 58 out of 491 samples from the environment and equipment surfaces, all from the deboning area, with differences in prevalence among facilities. The most frequent PCR-serogroup was IIa (74.1%) followed by IIb and IIc, and only one isolate was serogroup IVb. Twenty different pulsotypes and 11 sequence types (STs) grouped into 10 clonal complexes (CCs) were determined. ST121 (CC121) and ST9 (CC9) were the most abundant. Premature stop codons (PMSC6 and PMSC19) associated with attenuated virulence were found in the inlA sequence in 7 out of 12 selected strains. CC121 strains were strong biofilm formers and some harboured the transposon Tn6188, related with increased tolerance to quaternary ammonium compounds. L. monocytogenes clones considered hypovirulent resulted predominant in the deboning areas. The clonal structure and potential virulence of the isolates could help to establish adequate control measures and cleaning protocols for the comprehensive elimination of the pathogen in dry-cured ham processing environment.

Over the last decades, Adherent-Invasive Escherichia coli (AIEC) has been linked to the pathogenesis of Crohn's Disease. AIEC's characteristics, as well as its interaction with the gut immune system and its role in intestinal epithelial barrier dysfunction, have been extensively studied. Nevertheless, the currently available techniques to investigate the cross-talk between this pathogen and intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) are based on the infection of immortalized cell lines. Despite their many advantages, cell lines cannot reproduce the conditions in tissues, nor do they reflect interindividual variability or gut location-specific traits. In that sense, the use of human primary cultures, either healthy or diseased, offers a system that can overcome all of these limitations. Here, we developed a new infection model by using freshly isolated human IECs. For the first time, we generated and infected monolayer cultures derived from human colonic organoids to study the mechanisms and effects of AIEC adherence and invasion on primary human epithelial cells. To establish the optimal conditions for AIEC invasion studies in human primary organoid-derived epithelial monolayers, we designed an infection-kinetics study to assess the infection dynamics at different time points, as well as with two multiplicities of infection (MOI). Overall, this method provides a model for the study of host response to AIEC infections, as well as for the understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in adhesion, invasion and intracellular replication. Therefore, it represents a promising tool for elucidating the cross-talk between AIEC and the intestinal epithelium in healthy and diseased tissues.

The draft genome sequence of Bifidobacterium breve INIA P734, a strain shared by mother and child, is reported. It consists of 50 contigs, with 2,391,925 bp, 2,099 genes, and a G+C content of 58.8%. The genome analysis revealed the absence of antibiotic resistance and pathogenicity-related genes.

OBJECTIVE: The efficacy is measured for a public health intervention related to community-based planning for population protection measures (PPMs; ie, shelter-in-place and evacuation). DESIGN: This is a mixed (qualitative and quantitative) prospective study of intervention efficacy, measured in terms of usability related to effectiveness, efficiency, satisfaction, and degree of community engagement. SETTING: Two municipalities in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico are included. PARTICIPANTS: Community members consisting of individuals; traditional leaders; federal, territorial, and municipal emergency managers; municipal mayors; National Guard; territorial departments of education, health, housing, public works, and transportation; health care; police; Emergency Medical Services; faith-based organizations; nongovernmental organizations (NGOs); and the private sector. INTERVENTION: The intervention included four community convenings: one for risk communication; two for plan-writing; and one tabletop exercise (TTX). This study analyzed data collected from the project work plan; participant rosters; participant surveys; workshop outputs; and focus group interviews. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Efficacy was measured in terms of ISO 9241-11, an international standard for usability that includes effectiveness, efficiency, user satisfaction, and "freedom from risk" among users. Degree of engagement was considered an indicator of "freedom from risk," measurable through workshop attendance. RESULTS: Two separate communities drafted and exercised ~60-page-long population protection plans, each within 14.5 hours. Plan-writing workshops completed 100% of plan objectives and activities. Efficiency rates were nearly the same in both communities. Interviews and surveys indicated high degrees of community satisfaction. Engagement was consistent among community members and variable among governmental officials. CONCLUSIONS: Frontline communities have successfully demonstrated the ability to understand the environmental health hazards in their own community; rapidly write consensus-based plans for PPMs; participate in an objective-based TTX; and perform these activities in a bi-lingual setting. This intervention appears to be efficacious for public use in the rapid development of community-based PPMs.

The majority of cases of listeriosis are associated with the consumption of contaminated food. Some strains of Listeria monocytogenes can persist over months or years in meat processing plants increasing the risk of product contamination. The presence of L. monocytogenes was examined in 10 dry-cured ham processing facilities. A total of 1801 samples were collected from environment and equipment, during processing (1095) and after cleaning and disinfection (706). These samples were taken from non-food contact (736) and food contact (1065) surfaces. In addition, 204 samples from ham surfaces were also analysed. Prevalence varied from 6% to 34% among facilities, and was higher during processing than after cleaning and disinfection (24.8% vs 11.0%) and from non-food than from food contact surfaces (22.6% vs 17.4%). L. monocytogenes serotype 1/2a was predominant (53.9%), followed by 1/2c (26.0%) and 1/2b (15.3%) and less frequently 4b (4.8%). A total of 142 different pulsotypes were registered. Potential persistent L.monocytogenes strains were isolated in 9 out the 10 facilities, with no more than 6 pulsotypes in a given plant. Two pulsotypes were common in different installations, detected before and after cleaning and disinfection, highlighting the importance of monitoring the presence of this pathogen in dry-cured ham processing environments.

Gut microbial and metabolite alterations have been linked to the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases. Here we perform a multi-omics microbiome and metabolite analysis of a longitudinal cohort of Crohn's disease patients undergoing autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and investigational therapy that induces drug free remission in a subset of patients. Via comparison of patients who responded and maintained remission, responded but experienced disease relapse and patients who did not respond to therapy, we identify shared functional signatures that correlate with disease activity despite the variability of gut microbiota profiles at taxonomic level. These signatures reflect the disease state when transferred to gnotobiotic mice. Taken together, the integration of microbiome and metabolite profiles from human cohort and mice improves the predictive modelling of disease outcome, and allows the identification of a network of bacteria-metabolite interactions involving sulfur metabolism as a key mechanism linked to disease activity in Crohn's disease.
